The Balearic marine industry claims that the Government's abolition of registration tax for vessels engaged in the subsector superyacht charter will help to gain market share, it  requests that the Government put pressure on Madrid not  to  apply this tax on boats sold at the Palma Boat Show, as did the Administrators in Catalonia, said  the president of the Association of Marine de Balears, Margarita Dahlberg..

The Association held its Ordinary General Assembly yesterday, where members discussed the results of the sector in 2009 and the outlook for this year.

The president of the Association, Margarita Dahlberg described the fiscal year of the sector in  2009 as "scary" especially in  the areas of shipyards and boat sales. Sales fell by 40 percent last year. The president indicated  that the downturns in these activities have affected ancillary industries.

The president said the employers that in this regard in 2009 there had been closure of  5 percent of companies in the sector, estimated at about 800. Mrs Dhalberg said however, that the impact of these closures has been greater in terms of turnover and employment than  5 percent due to the importance of some of the companies that have closed and those that have reduced activity.

After the general assembly, members of AENB held a gala dinner and awards ceremony at Real Club Nautico de Palma. This year, the employer presented with the award' 'Most involved  with the marine industry' was Ports de Balears. Mallorca Boats Service received the award for the senior partner and the company Rolling Stock received the award for 'career progression'.
Amongst attendees were Joana Barcelo, Councilor of Tourism,  and Francesca Vives from Commerce, Industry and Energy
